Outings involve a gentle walk of usually no more than three or four miles. Bring binoculars. Some locations can be cold, especially in winter, so bring warm waterproof clothing and stout waterproof footwear, and a packed lunch for whole day outings.

Embankment is on the District, Circle, Bakerloo and Northern lines, and is a short walk from Charing Cross Mainline Station.
Coaches leave promptly at the advertised time and return in the early evening of the same day.
Advance booking is advisable.
Booking opened in July for coach trips up to the end of February.
Booking for coach trips from March onwards starts at the end of January.
The charge for coach trips is £14 for RSPB members or £15 for non-members.
There is also a charge for admission to some reserves.
RSPB members should bring their membership card for free admission to RSPB reserves.
Permit charges given below show the non-concessionary rate or group rate and were correct at the time of writing.

To do this, please contact our Bookings Secretary on (020) 8994 8259, who will tell you how to reserve a place on any of our coach outings, or you can find out by coming to one of our indoor meetings. For non-coach outings, where another meeting place is indicated, please just turn up at the time and place shown and you will be made very welcome. Day trip - start: 08.52am Oare Marshes is a Kent Wildlife Trust reserve on the north Kent coast, opposite the Isle of Sheppey. It is good for passage waders, raptors including marsh harrier, wintering brent geese, etc. We will take the train at 08.52am from Victoria station, which arrives at 10.09am at Faversham station [map] [directions] [train times]. From Faversham we will take a local bus or share taxis to Oare village, from where we will walk along the sea wall beside Faversham Creek to the reserve. There are toilets at Faversham Station, and a pub in Oare village, but no facilities in the reserve. Bring lunch. |

Coach trip - start: 08:00am This nature reserve, managed by Hampshire County Council, is on the River Hamble near Southampton Water. There is a good network of footpaths, which take in a variety of habitats including tidal mudflats, scrub and woodland. Our trip is timed in the hope that we will see the high-tide wader roost, which can be spectacular. No admission charge. Public toilets. |

Coach trip - start: 08:00am This RSPB Reserve is beside the River Thames in Kent. There are a number of pools, marshes and hedgerows and it adjoins the tidal mudflats of the Thames. It is an excellent site for migrant waders, and also for wildfowl and raptors. There are no facilities at the reserve. |

Coach trip - start: 08:00am This is a well-known Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust reserve on the Severn Estuary in Gloucestershire. We can expect to see large numbers of wildfowl, including wintering swans. There are several large hides overlooking the wet meadows and pools. The reserve also holds an extensive collection of non-native wildfowl from all over the world. There is a large visitor centre, with a shop, tearoom and toilets. The admission charge for non Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust members is £8.75. |

Day trip - start: 10:00am The Lee Valley Country Park, a regular destination for our Group, is an extensive area of wild habitat not far to the north of London. We can expect to see a good selection of wildfowl, hopefully including smew, goldeneye and goosander, with maybe some waders, and a good chance of seeing wintering bittern for which the Park has become well-known. Coach trip - start: 08:00am Holkham is situated on the North Norfolk coast near Wells. Habitat in the National Nature Reserve includes dunes, tidal saltmarsh, pine woods, grassland, and there is mature woodland and a large lake in the grounds of Holkham Hall. The area is excellent for wintering pink-footed, white-fronted and brent geese, and there is a good chance of seeing barn owl, snow bunting and twite. No admission charge. There are no facilities on the reserve, but a pub nearby. |

Coach trip - start: 08:00am This reserve is situated on the north Kent Coast near Herne Bay. An interesting new destination for our Group, the park is an SPA and SSSI owing to its importance for migrant birds. It consists of a narrow strip of clifftop land on a fast eroding shoreline overlooked by the twin towers of a ruined medieval church, itself built on the remains of a Roman fort which guarded the former seaway separating the Isle of Thanet from Kent. We hope to see brent geese, red-breasted merganser, possibly eider duck, red-throated diver, fulmar, auks, marsh and hen harriers, buzzard, peregrine & merlin, possibly red kite, waders including golden and grey plovers, sanderling and purple sandpiper, possibly shorelark, black redstart, firecrest and snow bunting. The visitor centre highlights the archaeological, historical, geological and wildlife conservation value of the area. There are toilets at the centre. |

This Essex Wildlife Trust National Nature Reserve is situated in the Thames Estuary, near Southend-on-Sea in Essex, and is reached by a causeway a short walk from the station. The perimeter path offers extensive views over the tidal mudflats with a good chance of seeing avocets, other waders and brent geese, of which large numbers winter here. The interior of the island consists mainly of grassland and scrub with passerines and, hopefully, owls and raptors. There are no facilities on the island. Bring lunch. |

Coach trip - start: 08:00am This well-known location is the RSPB's flagship reserve on the Suffolk coast and a very popular destination for our Group. There is a wide range of habitats, including extensive reedbeds, lagoons, woodland, heathland and seashore. On our visit we hope to hear booming bitterns and see displaying marsh harriers, bearded tits, and various warblers. The nature trail takes in a number of hides overlooking different habitats. There is a large visitor centre, shop, tearoom and toilets. Admission charge of £5 for non RSPB members. |

Coach trip - start: 08:00am Dungeness is an RSPB reserve in the far south eastern corner of Kent. It is built around flooded disused gravel pits, and there are reedbeds and scrub, as well as shingle. The reserve has a good-sized visitor centre which includes a shop (with snacks available) and toilets, and windows overlooking one of the pools. There are several hides on the route around the reserve. Admission charge of £3 for non RSPB members. |

Coach trip - start: 08:00am Ashdown Forest, which covers an extensive area in East Sussex, includes open heath, grassland, bogs, scrub and woodland. This mixture of habitats means it attracts a diverse range of bird and animal species. Resident birds include stonechat, meadow pipit, Dartford warbler, lesser redpoll, bullfinch, and summer visitors to the Forest include skylark, yellowhammer, cuckoo, woodlark, common redstart, hobby. We will visit various habitat areas during the day. Public toilets are available. |

Coach trip - start: 08:00am Cley Marshes is a large reserve on the north coast of Norfolk, and is run by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust. The trail takes us through extensive reedbeds, along banks overlooking salt and freshwater marshes, and out to the shingle beach, from which we will scan the sea for seabirds and seals. There are some hides overlooking the pools and reedbeds, but much of the viewing is from the banks and seashore. There is a visitor centre, with toilets. The entry fee for non Norfolk Wildlife Trust members is £5. |

Coach trip - start: 08:00am This local nature reserve, managed by West Sussex County Council, is on the south coast. The walk from the visitor centre goes out to the seashore, passing tidal pools and creeks which can hold a variety of waders and wildfowl. At the time of our trip, waders can be expected on passage from their summer breeding areas to their winter habitats. There are hedges and shrubs which can produce a number of smaller birds. On arrival at the beach, we will scan the sea for grebes, divers, wildfowl. £1 donation per person is requested. Visitor centre and toilets. |
